‘Red Light Therapy’ by Chatwin is not just a comprehensive guide to RLT, but a practical tool for using it in various health and wellness contexts. It delves into the workings of RLT and equips you with the knowledge to apply it effectively.

I have used it for years as a cutting-edge tool to help heal my skin problems. Unlike many, I don’t demand absolute certainty that a new technology works. If it looks promising, I try it. While there is some scientific evidence that the therapy helps treat skin conditions and injuries, the final decision on whether or not to use it is up to you.

The book is divided into seven chapters. They are
Chapter 1 – Red Light Therapy: Background and History Chapter 2 – The Science of Red-Light Therapy Chapter 3 – Unveiling the Benefits of Red-Light Therapy Chapter 4 – Shedding Light on Safety Concerns Chapter 5 – Getting Practical: What, Where and How Chapter 6 – Using Red Light Therapy at Home Chapter 7 – Even More Things You Need to Know

The chapters are short and easy to read. The book also discusses a few of the devices on the market. The list is not comprehensive since new devices are introduced each year. I own several red-light therapy devices. I would like to own a full-body device similar to a tanning bed, but I cannot afford one at this time.

I found reading the book to be an enjoyable and enlightening experience. I would recommend it to anyone considering RLT. As I’ve discovered, the therapy’s benefits are not immediate. Like many things in life, it takes time to see results. In my case, it took over a year of regular use for the therapy to fully heal my skin condition.

There is a really good overview of the possibilities of red light therapy and some super info on related light fields that I hadn’t thought about. This book is well worth getting.

But there are at least a couple errors. Early in the book melatonin is mentioned as skin pigmentation. It’s actually melanin. The word processor probably did that. Elsewhere the book mentioned that Pfizer et al used 10,000 subjects in trials and that’s good. Still the mRNA pseudo vaccine (they don’t meet the WHO definition) fails to prevent people from getting sick or transmitting disease. So it’s either the wrong 10,000 or not long enough or both.

    Still a very thoughtful book.

I’ve been curious about Red Light Therapy for a while, especially to combat my seasonal affective disorder (SAD) during the dreary winter months. This book not only satisfied my curiosity but also provided a comprehensive guide that’s both enlightening and practical. This book has been instrumental in my decision to incorporate RLT into my daily routine, and I’m already noticing a significant improvement in my mood. Recommended

The negative reviews about this speak to the ignorance of the people who wrote them. Red light is not an easy subject and requires anyone trying to explain it to go into some pretty complicated science, as it’s at the deepest levels in the body that the magic happens. The author has done an excellent job of explaining it as simply as can be explained, but it’s only the first section. Then, she goes on to lay out all the benefits, the various devices, and other kinds of light treatments. Will come back to this again and again as it is a difficult subject that you can’t expect to grasp immediately.

Simply love Kindle! I was literally thinking – what is this with red light therapy and wondering about getting a red-light sauna bag, and would you know it, someone’s already done the legwork. So, I can learn a lot in one go and then check the facts. Thank you to author Julia Chatwin (for reading my mind.)

(LEDs) treat various conditions, especially skin conditions with evidence supporting the claim that RLT is effective in treating skin conditions such as acne, rosacea, and psoriasis, RLT has also been shown to be helpful for several other conditions, from arthritis to auto-immune disorders.

Safety of new technologies is of course the first thing on one’s mind. Apparently, the data suggests that RLT appears to be safe and beneficial for most patients. Negative effects are infrequent and minor in nature, such as temporary skin irritation or mild redness. There is considerable ongoing research as it gains popularity. The author admits that the substantiating facts are only partially validated.

Apparently, the Egyptians were the first to grasp the concept that colored glass will filter out “All of the other wavelengths of the visible spectrum of light and give you a pure form of red light, which is 600-700 nanometre (nm) wavelength radiation,” reports Red Light Man (2022).

Each type of electromagnetic radiation has a different wavelength and frequency. They can be used in various applications, from medical imaging to telecommunications.

Studies show that “The red part of the visible light spectrum (600 to 1000 nm) also interacts with a key metabolic enzyme in our cell’s mitochondria, raising the lid on our energy generating potential,” according to Red Light Man (2022).

Some truly fascinating facts, like learning the skin is actually an organ. Didn’t know that. Since I’ve never had even had as much as a rash, I have new appreciation for what those who struggle with skin issues go through. But when it came to aging, my interest was piqued for sure, as quoted by the author. “By stimulating collagen and elastin production, red light therapy helps reduce fine lines and wrinkles, giving skin a more youthful appearance,” Dr. Engelman concludes. ”The red light wavelength penetrates to reach and enter the cells and their mitochondrial energy factories to deliver additional energy, without causing damage to mitochondria or DNA.”

It seems this is at the core of the potential benefits from RTL – “Red light therapy’s wavelengths can penetrate the skin, stimulating the production of adenosine triphosphate (ATP) within the mitochondria (as we’ve explained, ATP is the “powerhouse of the cells, responsible for storing and transferring energy in the body’s cells). Thus, damaged and old cells can be repaired, and new cells can be created. “As a result, the body can naturally heal itself, improve the texture and appearance of the skin, and increase collagen production,” explains Kiayan Medical, citing studies to research the positive effects of red light therapy.

I also really appreciate the pricing information, and what factors affect the pricing. “Red light therapy devices can be priced from about $50 to over $1,000, with many reputable models available in the $100 to $399 range.”

Certainly now much more informed on different types of light than before. From white light, to violet, indigo (effective influence on circadian rhythm), blue light, green light, yellow light, orange light and finally – red light. (Super cute pic of a pup sleeping on his pillow beneath a red light).

Point is near-infrared, can have UVA and UVB, but RLT when emitted by LED’s it’s considered safe and beneficial. A therapeutic approach with lots of potential benefits. I’m still not clear on whether I should get a red-light sauna bag, but I am much better informed and there are plenty of references in the end for me to look further into this emerging therapeutic approach.

    Namaste, fellow wellness seekers!

As a yoga instructor and mindfulness practitioner, my journey has always revolved around the search for holistic methods to promote wellness, rejuvenation, and inner peace. When I stumbled upon the book on “Red Light Therapy (RLT),” I was instantly intrigued. Often, in our practices, we emphasize the importance of light, both internally and externally. And here was a book that provided scientific backing to this age-old concept!

The beauty of this comprehensive guide lies not just in its meticulously researched information but also in its holistic approach. While many of us have come across light therapies in our quest for ageless beauty and well-being, the depth with which this book delves into the subject is truly enlightening.

Every chapter offers a fascinating discovery. From the origins of light therapy to the deep dive into how RLT works at a cellular level, the connection between our body’s cells, the mitochondria, and the power of red light was eye-opening. I was particularly intrigued by the section discussing the role of nitric oxide and cellular respiration.

But beyond the science, what resonated with me deeply was the practical application of RLT. The book doesn’t just tell you why it works; it guides you on how to harness its benefits. Whether you are looking to alleviate skin conditions, boost hair health, balance hormones, or even improve energy levels – the possibilities seem boundless with RLT.

Safety, a paramount concern for many, is meticulously addressed. As someone who often gets asked questions about different wellness therapies, I found the chapters on safety concerns, especially around its use during pregnancy, possible migraine implications, and the potential as a remedy for hair loss, to be invaluable.

Moreover, for those curious about incorporating RLT into their daily routine, the guide provides a thorough insight into accessing treatments, from professional settings to at-home devices. The ease with which it answers questions about home-based RLT treatments is commendable.

To my fellow yogis and seekers, this isn’t just a book. It’s a journey – a journey that throws light (quite literally!) on a therapeutic technique that could redefine our approach to health and beauty. Whether you’re a novice or someone already in the loop of RLT, this book will elevate your understanding and provide the wisdom to make informed wellness decisions.

I wholeheartedly recommend “Red Light Therapy” to anyone seeking an integrated approach to health. In the vast ocean of wellness literature, this book shines as a beacon, guiding us towards a radiant, rejuvenated self.

In the words of the ancient scriptures, *”Tamaso mā jyotir gamaya”* – From darkness, lead me to light. This book does just that. 🙏🌟
